The Valtellina

The old roman district called Rezia (it gave the name to Alpi Retiche), is today an industrious valley, whose villages are important tourist centres. Madesimo, Chiesa Valmalenco, Aprica, Bormio, Livigno and valfurva are the most famous with their lakes and parks, but there are other less known but no way inferior. Of particular interest is the roman "Clavenna" (at the present Chiavenna) which was in the past a strategic point for the transalpine trade, and Morbegno rich of splendid churches and palaces that can be admired also in Sondrio and Tirano. Visitors could not miss the old villages as Traona, Caspano, Ponte, Chiuro witness of history. The Valtellina wines (Sassella, Inferno, Grumello and others) have been extoled by famous poets as Carducci and Montale. Taste them yourselves!

The local cooking is famous for its Pizzoccheri and Sciatt and for its cheese Bitto.

The woods in Valtellina are rich of conifers and chestnuts trees, while the several lakes and torrents would offer you trouts and umbers. In Colico you can enjoy yourself sailing the lake.
