The Pavese: Town Garden

The two big rivers, the Po and the Ticino outline the profile of the pavese country, by distinguishing it in three areas: the Pavese in the North- West, the Lomellina in the North-East and the Oltrepo in the South.

The Pavese offers to the tourist a very striking view: the alluvional plane declines slowly towards the Ticino, crossed by the thick net of once navigable channels. On the shores of the rivers, the Olona and the Naviglio, wide lines of tall trunk trees stand out

In spring the luxuriant vegetation of the blooming strikes the tourist, but one can catch the soul of the pavese in autumn, from October to February, when the fog hides the contours and creates unreal athmospheres.

From the fog sea the outlines of the Pavese architectural jewels come up:

  • the Certosa of Pavia, with its impressive sacredness
  • the Belgioioso castle, ancient stronghold and nowadays fair centre of primary importance.,

But the pavese never stops to surprise and keeps the uncontamined nature of the Sant'Alessio oasis and of the Garzaia of Carola to the tourist and the wellbeing of the Miradolo's Spase.
