The Lomellina

This area's name is due to its most important centre Lomello, which during the Roman period lived a splendour time, as also during the Carolingian period.

Important monuments are the castle, the Romanic Santa Maria Maggiore and the baptistry.

The old villages of Gambarana, Lagosco, Mede, Olveano were in the past floureshing centres with their severe castles and splendid churches. The Castirana Castle in the past the property of the dukes Arborio di Gattinara, houses today interesting antique trade exhibitions and cultural events.

The vast rice - fields offer the primary element for the local cooking: the good rice and the tasty frogs. In Mortara you can taste the goose and all the dishes cooked with this winged animal, that in the town is the protagonist of a palio.

In Robbio palio instead fight the members of the eight quarters during the month of September.

In the firts week of October during the celebration of Madonna del Rosario, there is an interesting fair that celebrates its famous biscuit called " Offella".

The Ticino di Zerbolo is destination of tourism in all the seasons. During the summertime this place is ideal for a pic-nic, or for a relaxing walk or ride.
