In the heart of Franciacorta, among hills and vineyards rises one of the most important and best preserved medieval villages in Lombardy. On the south-west side of it, towers the Castello di Bornato, visible for miles in the distance. The roman tower of Inverardo di Bornato (1270) and the massive stone walls give an idea of the important defensive role the castle played. The wonderful park full of centuries-old trees stands in a high position offering a view of the Apennines on very clear days - Dante himself enjoyed the same view
several times. Villa Orlando, built inside the Castle at the end of 1500, has rooms decorated with frescoes.
