The mediaeval Castle of Sant’Alessio (X-XV cent.) is surrounded by 25 acres of natural environment (notable the heronry rich with 500 nests visible from the very inside). The park consists of a reconstruction of the original flora and fauna from the Po plains. A tropicalhouse specializing in colibrì and birds from South America is included. The Oasi of Sant’Alessio, was started in 1973 to give support the world wide institutions helping the breeding and the reintroduction to the wild of species in danger. The results have been very
interesting and today Sant’Alessio is internationally also for this achievement.
